It’s all very well to blame the kids or the dads for all the mess and indeed there is plenty of mess they can make and a variety of stains they can bring into the house but ladies it is time to remind yourselves of some of your own specialities. Remember it is really not wise to apply Lipstick while sitting on the sofa, if you do manage to get it onto the fabric scrape off as much as you can with a blunt knife, then rub clean with a little soap or washing-up liquid, if the stain persists, your could use a stain remover, you can dab non-washable fabrics with methylated spirits but this is a tricky one and something that might require the professional assistance of specialist Cambridgeshire upholstery cleaners Art of clean.
Another thing that Art of clean seriously do not recommend is apply nail varnish while sitting on a priceless antique rug, or even on your sitting room carpet. If you do get nail polish on the carpet your can try nail-varnish remover but the stain tends to spread you can it with a carpet shampoo but if the stain persists, the professional cleaners at Art of clean can help.
The worst of the worst maybe the true cost of DIY hairdressing can be hair dye on the carpet or what if you left the hair straighteners on in the wrong place again…you can trim lightly scorched tufts with scissors – heavier marks may need to be brushed out with a stiff brush.
Every week regular sweeping or vacuuming with a hard-floor attachment is the best way to stop a build up of dirt on wood floors. With sealed wooden floors they can be mopped with warm water, but make sure you really wring the mop out as too much water can get into the wood and make it swell. Some unsealed floors have a waxed rather than varnished finish, so just use a damp mop sparingly. You can apply more wax polish to improve the colour of the wood, but little and not often.
Over time the wax may build up and get a bit grubby, in which case you could strip it back and start again. A cloth moistened with white spirit will lift the old wax – wipe away the residue with crumpled newspaper. Mop the floor, then re-apply new wax. If your floor has maybe taken a battering over the winter and needs some real TLC Art of clean specialise in cleaning wooden floors rejuvenating them so they are easier to clean on a regular basis.
Don’t forget that outside wood sweep your decking regularly with a stiff broom to prevent a build up of dirt and algae, now most of us can’t use a pressure washer with the hose pipe ban there are plenty of specialist decking cleaning products available, which you brush into the wood, leave, then rinse off, but a simpler, cheaper and more eco-friendly way is to wash the deck down with a solution of warm water and soda crystals.
Easter is a lovely Spring festival, it’s great to be throwing off those Winter woollies and watching the daffodils come into their own. Even the Easter rain can’t really dampen the spirits as all that greenery springs forth. But Easter indoors can get messy, ever found yourself sitting down on the sofa after a busy bank holiday weekend with a nice cup of coffee only to find a bit of chocolate melded to the fabric of your most expensive piece of furniture and smeared across the best carpet.
First thing to do from both upholstery and carpets  is to scrape off as much as you can with a blunt knife then shampoo the carpet or use a stain remover on the sofa. The problem with spot cleaning carpets or upholstery especially at this time of year is that you can create a clean spot that shows up how grubby the rest of the area is.
You suddenly notice those over enthusiastic coffee drinking stains that you had tried to sponge with cold water, then blot dry. On the carpet and on the upholstery where you sponged the mark with cold water then dabbed at the mark with detergent, even though you rinsed and blotted dry the mark remains.
Before you try a stain remover why not take proper professional cleaning advice. Art of clean could really get the stains out of both carpet and upholstery to make your living room as fresh and clean as your spring garden is beginning to feel.
Wood floors are lovely and Art of clean have been spring cleaning various types of hard wood floors for many years. More than once we have been asked about what is the best method to revitalise hard wood floors?
Revitalising hard wood floors rests on two main points; first what condition the floor are currently in and secondly what finish has been previously applied to the floor surfaces. Art of Clean would be happy to come and assess the condition of your hard wood floor and recommend the appropriate service. If the floor has a good seal and has only suffered from a build up of surface dirt, we would recommend surface cleaning and buffing. But if your wood floors are in a commercial setting especially a restaurant setting, floor polish stripping, deep cleaning and re-polishing is usually required.
If your floor surface has suffered complete wear to the seal and the floor surface is unprotected, soiling will start to become ingrained in the wood. At this stage it may require sanding and sealing to restore it to its full former beauty. While hard wood floors are normally very resilient they will periodically require, professional cleaning as provided for by Art of Clean, maintenance to help protect them from wear and enhance their appearance is what we know best. Professional cleaning and polishing process as performed by Cambridgeshire cleaning specialist Art of Clean removes all accumulated polish and soil and restores to your hard wood floor to its revitalised state.
Sadly cleaning problems on slate, natural stone or tile and grout floors are normally only recognised once the floor surface has become visibly soiled. But by the time it’s finally noticeable, layer upon layer of stains, bacteria, and soil deposits will have built-up into a mess you can’t easily clean on your own. Art of Clean specialise in cleaning slate, stone or tiles floors let us help your bring back a bit of sparkle to the floor.
The problem with cleaning these kinds of floor is often caused by the floor surface suffering from abrasions and tiny surface scratching. This process eventually causes the floor to appear dull and dirty. Indeed it is in effect the floor surface is collecting microscopic layers of soil, oil’s and bacteria.
The traditional cleaning methods and chemicals used become ineffective as the soil deposits build up. It used to be that tiled floors or grout had to be replaced once they reached this state — but now you have a better option. We can restore even heavily soiled tile, concrete, natural stone, and grout usually in a single visit. Our specialist hard floor cleaning technique employs the use of modern technology, to effective deep clean and capture all the waste.
Once the floor and grout surface have been professionally cleaned on going protection can be achieved with a seler or a grout. Sealing the surface will be effective in preventing permanent damage from contaminants such as food and wine and facilitate easier cleaning in the future. Let Art of clean give you a professional floor clean to make the regular cleaning of your floors easier.
With all the amazing sunny weather has it show up the state of your floor polish, many floors after the winter months loose their bright clean appearance through wear or due to poor maintenance. If you think your floors finish is no longer actively performing or offering adequate protection, removal of the old polish many be necessary, prior to refinishing of the floor.
Art of clean can refresh and resurface your stone floors finish cleaning away all that winter wear and tear. Floor oiling and polishing requires a degree of skill and care to make sure you apply a floor dressing evenly and to ensure the correct consistency of application. Oil or polish applied by the correct method after cleaning can transform a previously dull looking floor into a beautiful floor with an even finish that both looks fantastic and offers a good level of protection.
Adding a shine to previously polished floors that do not require stripping or resurfacing, is achieved using a high speed rotary floor machine with fine grade floor pads and a floor maintenance solution. This method can be applied straight after cleaning to enhance a floors appearance and beauty.
The best way to protect the surface of your floors as with your carpets is to place a suitable dirt excluder outside of all entrances and a non-staining mat inside. This will help protect your flooring. Up to 80% of the fine dusts and grit that damage floors are carried in on people’s shoes.
There are some really tough stains which can get onto your carpets and Art of clean can help you to get them back to their former state and looking good as new. But for some staining items you really have to be careful how you treat it straight away.
For chewing Gum probably the worst of all carpet stains, do it wrong and you damaged your carpet for good. So first get a blunt knife and scrape up as much as you can, if the gum is still sticky place ice in a plastic bag around the gum to harden it and keep scrapping as much as possible. You can apply carpet shampoo to the area and clean, wait until it’s dried them vacuum it off. For fat, oil, grease or candle was Stains your can lay blotting paper or brown paper over the stain, place a cloth over the paper and apply a medium iron to draw the grease into the paper. You would want to follow this up with a good quality professional carpet shampoo or the grease that has penetrated into the pile may reappear weeks later as it seeps upwards, requiring further treatment.
Another nasty carpet stain that if incorrectly removed can damage the carpet for good is tar. First, scrape the excess tar off, make a solution of equal parts of glycerine and water, apply and leave it for an hour then rinse it with water. Again repeat the process till the stain in completely gone.
Art of clean specialise in getting stains, even of the worst kind out of your carpets if you are in any doubt as to how to treat a stain on a carpet give us a call.

Nor D stands for Norwegian Design and is run by Moira and her daughter
The store is located on Bridge Street in Cambridge
We met Moira during the NSPCC charity Fashion show at Anglia Ruskin University
After meeting Moira and I saw the wonderful items she displayed at her strand I knew I had to make my way over to her store in Cambridge to see the full range.
Oh Boy I was so right… It was amazing. I was warmly welcomed and had a short tour of the shop… I made my way to the back where I had a chance to try some of the lovely items form the menu… The Salmon on Rye Bread was just my thing. It was rounded off by a piece of the most delicious chocolate cake.
The atmosphere was relaxed clean and well thought out…
It is a nice open space so on a busy day, you would find it hard to get a seat here…. You might need to book a space…
Following my meal I head back to see the interior design items she has on the shelf.
Moira explained that she had a soft spot for Marimekko. She went on to explain the quality and durability of it. NorD has a large choice of Marimekko fabric for curtains and interior.
It has surely been a fabulous visit. Many thanks again Moira.
Keeping carpets clean is by far the hardest cleaning task, no matter how often you hoover all carpets require a periodic professional carpet clean be it a home or an office, bacteria, soil and grit are the major causes of wear and tear and this will reduce the carpet’s life as well as stopping it looking it’s best.
Art of clean are Cambridgeshire specialists in carpet cleaning and we know without a doubt that the carpet’s biggest enemies are stains, we have few tips to remove stains without damaging your carpet but if all the sunshine is showing up the Winter wear there is nothing like a professional deep clean to get them looking as good as new.
Beer Stains, who hasn’t spilled beer on a carpet, OK so mop up the stain with a paper towel and sponge with warm water or soda water fortunately beer is not too full of colour wine however is another matter. You will probably have heard this one before, to remove red wine stains simply pour white wine over fresh red wine stains or squirt with soda water. For white wine simply squirt with soda water.
Coffee Stains are also very common, blot with kitchen towel or similar, sponge with soda water, blot dry and repeat until the stain has gone. The Ink stain is never a good look on the carpet. Removing ink will depend on the type of ink. For ballpoint ink stains dry it up as quickly as possible. Dab with menthylated spirits or use a stain remover. Fountain pen ink stains need to be diluted with soda water then mop up as much as possible. Make a hot solution of soap flakes and apply on the stain and leave it for 15 minutes then blot. Repeat the process until the stain disappears.
